01st Jun 2016 News

French-Algerian filmaker Wissame Cherfi has just been confirmed as part of the judging panel for Dublin Web Fest 2016. Cherfi, who is based in Dublin, came to prominence with his short film “We are Dublin” which won the St. Patrick’s Special Prize at the “I LOVE MY CITY” showcase in 2013.

The work he co-directed in January 2015 along with Aidan Kelly was screened at the IFI in Dublin and cinemas across Ireland. It was a documentary called “No More Secrets”, about street art and mental health issues. On that same year he also directed the visual poem “Dublin You Are” for Dublin 2020, it went viral and currently has almost 300,000 views. In 2016, he worked as an assistant director on the film Europe, She Loves.

Wissame’s current projects include a short documentary series called “Fear No More” about the lives of Ireland based refugees who have arrived during the last three decades, and a first feature-length project, “No Way Back”, a part-documentary, part-animation film currently in pre-production in association with Birdtree Productions that tells the story of a teenage Syrian refugee who swam for 7 hours across the Aegean sea to get to freedom.
