Hollywood Rewards Night School Actress Jodie Hirst

British actress Jodie Hirst recently won a prestigious Hollywood award for her performance in the webseries Night School. The actress, who attended the first edition of Dub Web Fest in Novebember last year, is now gaining international recognition for her work in the acclaimed indie series based on the bestselling novels by CJ Daugherty.

Hirst, 24, was chosen as Best Supporting Actress for her role in the show, during the Indie Series Awards (ISA), hosted on April 6th in Los Angeles. She was a guest during the inagural Dub Web Fest ceremony last year, in which the series won an award for Best Sound. She was nominated for the fifth episode of the show, “All the Pretty Killers”, one of the audience’s favourite and one of the most watched on Youtube.

The competition in Tinseltown was impressive: Emma Caulfield, who played Anya in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, was one of the strongest contenders.

Night School was also nominated for other ISA: Best Director, Best Writing, Best Cinematography and Best Editing. The books in which it’s based on have been translated to 22 different languages and sold over a million copies worldwide. The series have also been part of the selection of other important festivals, such as the Marseilles Web Fest and DC Web Fest (where it won Gold for Screenwriting).

On receiving the ISA for Best Supporting Actress, Jodie Hirst said “this award seems like a dream. I cried! I love the character Jo and I’m so overwhelmed that I have won”.

Book author JC Daugherty, who also wrote the script for the series, was quite proud of Jodie, as he commeneted that he was “absolutely thrilled that Jodie’s amazing talent, and the hard work of everyone in the Night School cast and crew, is being recognised. I’m so lucky to get to work with such a talented team.’
