7 trending Web Series you need to watch

Web series enthusiasts can celebrate. The latest stats in Europe say that millennials are simply not watching conventional TV. The Irish National broadcaster RTE launched an online TV channel, and you may well be of the minority if you don’t stream your latest episodes of digital series. But don’t panic. 

Here are the web series to put on your Christmas list:

1. Narco’s

A chronicled look at the criminal exploits of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. The Colombian drug kingpin who was notorious in the 80s. Although there are many retellings of Escobar’s reign in Colombia, the ten-hour long episodes will allow Padilha to portray every character’s ego, dreams, motives and ruthlessness. In fact, the director initially wanted to make a film on Escobar but decided against it. Narcos will sees Elite Squad star Moura reteam with Padilha. As far as the casting is concerned, we couldn’t be happier. Pablo Escobar will be played by Brazilian actor, Wagner Moura.”Game of Thrones” actor Pedro Pascal is cast as a DEA agent alongside Boyd Holbrook, and together they are engulfed in a drug war. The show will capture Miami’s descent into a drug-induced abyss in the 1980s. This will remain one of the main plot points of the series. When Escobar is told about the profits and money that can be made from drug peddling, he says, “Imagine how much it will sell for in Miami,” reported Variety online. “Narcos” will also offer a glimpse of the deaths that surrounded families in Miami after drugs found their way across the border.

2. Blacklist

The Blacklist is an American crime drama television series that premiered on NBC on September 23, 2013. Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader), a former United States Navy officer, turned high-profile criminal, voluntarily surrenders to the FBI after eluding capture for decades. He tells the FBI that he has a list of the most dangerous criminals in the world that he has compiled over the years and is willing to guide their operations in exchange for immunity from prosecution. He insists on working exclusively with a rookie FBI profiler by the name of Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone). The show also stars Diego Klattenhoff, Ryan Eggold and Harry Lennix. The pilot episode was written by Jon Bokenkamp and directed by Joe Carnahan. Executive producers for the series include Bokenkamp, John Eisendrath, and John Davis for Sony Pictures Television, Universal Television, and Davis Entertainment.

3. Fargo

A black comedy masterpiece, this Emmy award-winner is based on the Coen brothers’ film of the same name. Arriving in a snowy town in Minnesota, the mysterious Lorne Malvo (Thornton) starts to have an effect on the locals, most notably the meek insurance salesman Lester Nygaard (Freeman), who is drawn into a series of crimes. You won’t believe how quickly things start to disintegrate. Written by Noah Hawley starring Martin Freeman, Billy Bob Thornton, Allison Tolman and Colin Hanks.

4. Once Upon A Time

Once Upon a Time is an American fairy tale dramatic series that premiered on October 23, 2011, on ABC. The show takes place in the fictional seaside town of Storybrooke, Maine, whose residents are characters from various fairy tales transported to the “real world” town and robbed of their real memories by a powerful curse. Episodes typically feature a primary storyline in Storybrooke, as well as a secondary storyline from another point in a character’s life before the curse was enacted. The coolest thing of all about this funky web series is thas Irish actress Caroline Morahan has been cast as Elinor in what is going to be the highlight of her acting career to date. The Dublin actress moved to the States to pursue her dream and it has become a reality. Ya for all web series lovers!

5. Archer

Secret agent Sterling Archer (voiced to bone-dry perfection by Benjamin) is one of TV’s greatest jerks. The part workplace comedy, part Bond spoof, this very adult – and very funny – animation has him shooting and insulting his way through foreigners and innocent bystanders, without ever making it clear if he’s a hero or a villain. Until, that is, he becomes a druglord in season five. Created by Adam Reid and starring Jon Benjamin, Jessica Walter, Aisha Tyler. It was just announced this morning that Pam from Archer is cast in a new American web series. Earlier this month, Dad’s Garage released a ten-part web series Hart of America starring Nash in multiple roles. Nash is hoping to parlay this success into scripted on-camera roles. But she had auditioned for roles in Los Angeles and found the process frustrating. “People have never quite known what do do with me category wise,” she said. “Is she a mom, a hoodlum, a lead, a character actress?”

6. Daredevil

Following the widely panned 2003 film adaptation starring Ben Affleck, Marvel have righted their past wrongs with this dark, violent TV series based on the Daredevil comic books. Charlie Cox stars as Matt Murdock, the blind lawyer with unusually heightened senses that fights crime by night. Created by Drew Goddard and starring Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Rosario Dawson, Vincent D’Onofrio.

7. Better Call Saul

This Breaking Bad prequel traces the story of fast-talking, wise-cracking Saul Goodman as he was before he became everybody’s favourite crooked lawyer in Vince Gilligan’s TV masterpiece. The surprise is that when we first meet him, he’s Jimmy McGill (Odenkirk), a scuffling public defender, still dreaming of emulating his hero, older brother Chuck, a “rock star” lawyer in the firm of Hamlin, Hamlin & McGill. It’s a classic underdog story, and it’s not long before you find yourself rooting for him. Written by Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould starring Bob Odenkirk, Jonathan Banks and Michael McKean.
